In 2008 Parklea gained funding through Inspiring Scotland to work with young people in the 15 – 19 year age group, who are experiencing issues at school or those who had left but would benefit from further assistance to improve their future prospects. We are using this funding to provide a programme of education and work experience in horticulture and the environment to prepare young people for employment or further education.
Parklea aims to engage young people in gardening, horticulture, environmental and wildlife activities. Through nurturing and training we provide a route to significant work and educational opportunities. We offer an alternative programme of activities to help those disengaged from education or in danger of becoming unemployed and lacking in direction. Our programme offers full time placements of 3½ days per week for up to 2 years which will allow them to be part of the SVQ training programme as well as take part in other activities to increase confidence, team building, personal development and core skills.
