SVQ Level 1 Horticulture

 

SVQ level 1 is designed as an introduction to for those seeking a career in the land based industry

Entry requirements
No formal entry requirements

Duration
Flexible start and completed normally within 1 year

Structure of the SVQ
Assessments are mainly based on practical work and the production of a portfolio of evidence.  The way the SVQ is made up is shown below. The unit title appears in bold and the elements that make up each unit are listed under the unit title.

Candidates are fully supported throughout level I with assessors managing portfolio development.  Level 1 is based around an introduction to horticulture which provides basics in horticulture and helps with core skill development.

Mandatory units
Candidates must complete all of the three mandatory units:

F7TG 04 Maintain Safe and Effective Working Practices
1. Maintain the safety of self and others in the workplace
2. Maintain effective working relationships with others
3. Maintain and develop personal performance

F7LR 04 Assist with Planting and Establishing Plants
1. Assist with planting
2. Assist with establishing plants after planting

F7RF 04 Assist with Maintaining Plants
1. Assist with maintaining health of plants
2. Assist with controlling unwanted plants

Optional units
Candidates must also complete 3 of the following units, in addition to the mandatory units:

F7S3 04 Assist with the Maintenance of Grass Surfaces
1. Assist with the maintenance of grass structures

F7RH 04 Assist with Maintaining Structures and Surfaces
1. Assist with maintaining structures and surfaces

F7RV 04 Assist with the Maintenance of Equipment
1. Assist with preparing equipment for maintenance
2. Assist with maintenance procedures

F7SA 04 Assist with the Vegetative Propagation of Plants
1. Assist with collecting propagation material
2. Assist with preparing propagation material
3. Assist with establishing propagation material in a growing
    environment

F7S7 04 Assist with the Propagation of Plants from Seed
1. Assist with preparing for propagation from seed
2. Assist with sowing seed

F7RC 04 Assist with Identifying the Presence of, and Controlling,
       Common Pests and Diseases
1. Identify the presence of common pests and diseases
2. Assist with controlling common pests and diseases
F7S5 04 Assist with the Preparation of a Growing Media
